The exhibition and Book Launch, at Birdwood House Gallery in Totnes, Devon, was a resounding success. Over £500 was raised for good causes, namely a clean water project in a Maasai village in Tanzania, and also the Gaza Relief effort.
Two weeks is a long time to spend, every day, on public show however, this also allows people to return at a later date, and also tell others about the show if they want to recommend it. Many of the rugs and carpets are now with new owners, although some have been returned owing to each buyer receiving a two week ‘cooling off’ period, allowing them to decide if their purchase really matches their home and personal taste.
It is nice when visitors bring in their own items for my attention and I have already restored a carpet for one customer who visited, since the show closed.
The book launch was also well received, each purchaser of the introductory chapter receiving an automatic discount if they subsequently order the full volume upon publication. There are a few copies of ‘Meetings with Remarkable Weavings’ chapter one still available from the limited edition print-run of fifty.
